Lucerne is the capital of the canton of Lucerne in central Switzerland. The municipality already exists since the early Middle Ages. The city grew on the shores of Lake Lucerne. The canton of Lucerne belongs to the German speaking part of Switzerland. The German name of the Lake Lucerne is Vierwaldstättersee. The town is located at a place, where the river Reuss drains the Lake Lucerne. That river divides the city in two parts, which are connected by several bridges.

One of them is a covered wooden bridge (Kapellbrücke = Chapel Bridge) from the 14th century. This bridge and its remarkable tower are the famous landmarks of Lucerne. The palace hotel on the mountain is reachable by foot and by the funicular. That’s the shortest funicular in the world. A ride from the boardwalks of the Lake to the lobby of the palace hotel takes only one minute and is free of charge.

The Art Deco Hotel Montana was constructed in the years 1909 and 1910. The hotel, built in the classical, palatial style, is the last one of this kind in Lucerne. The rooms provide fantastic views across the Lake Lucerne towards the Swiss Alps. The 4 stars hotel provides 65 rooms and 110 beds. All rooms are equipped with radio, TV, telephone and mini bar. There are four different kinds of rooms available: standard, superior, junior suite and tower suite.

The rooms are furnished in art deco style. All of them have a bath and a balcony. The two tower suites are reachable via spiral staircases or by using the lift. The spacious luxury suites are equipped with rooming in baths. Windows around the suites present a panoramic view to the bridge, the lake and the mountains. The Scala Restaurant, with its impressing stucco decoration, is open to the public and offers a delightful international cuisine. Additional are a dining-terrace and the Louis Bar awaiting their guests. The three conference rooms of the palace hotel have a capacity up to 120 persons.
