In former times there have been the individual ski resorts of Andermatt and Sedrun, which meanwhile grew together to one big, spacious ski arena. The huge area was named Gotthard Oberalp Arena. Winter athletes have available more than 130 kilometres of pistes in the Gotthard Oberalp Arena. Each level is offered, some of the pistes are additionally prepared with artificial snow.
Half pipes and snow parks have been equally considered as cross-country trails and winter hiking paths. Tourists can pursue each kind of winter sports at this place. The trains of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn are means of transport between the different ski resorts and villages. They enable a comfortable journey from A to B. Only a few years ago the Furka Oberalp Bahnand the BVZ Zermatt Bahn joined together forming the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn. A trip with the steam rack railway on the section between Realp and Furka on the steam rail Furka mountain route means a special rail adventure.
Andermatt and Sedrun in the Gotthard Oberalp Arena
Andermatt (1440 m) in the canton of Uri is a largely known Swiss winter sports resort. For a long time the village eked out a forgotten existence high up in the mountains.
